Privacy Policy · Cuttlebook
This policy explains how Cuttlebook handles personal information when you use cuttlebook.com. It applies together with the terms of service.
1. What we collect
Account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We receive and store your email, display name, avatar, and the user id Clerk assigns.
Your work. Prose, outlines, characters, notes, AI conversations, and files such as covers. One copy stays in your browser (IndexedDB). If you sync, another copy is in our cloud database and object storage.
Use of the product. To enforce plan quotas we store daily and monthly AI usage counts. To run and debug the site, Cloudflare records request time, IP address, browser type, and error logs.
Payments. Subscriptions, tips, refunds, and revenue shares are stored as orders: amount, status, and time. Airwallex handles the card number. We do not store the full number.
What you publish. A public work, the author name, and fork links that the community can see are shown to other users.
We do not knowingly collect government id numbers, health information, or information from anyone under 18.
2. Why we use it
We use this information to provide writing, sync, AI replies, the community, quotas, and payments; to keep accounts secure; to answer you; and to meet legal duties.
We do not train our own models on your manuscript or conversations, and we do not sell personal information. The text needed for one reply is sent to a model provider so that reply can be returned.
3. Who else processes it
These providers process data only as needed to run the service for us:
Clerk for sign-in. Cloudflare for the site, database, object storage, and logs. Airwallex for payments. The model provider for generating a reply. Each has its own privacy terms.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, when it is needed to protect a user or the service, or as part of a merger or transfer of the business. Public works are shown to other readers because you published them.
4. How long we keep it
The account and cloud copies of your work stay until you delete them, or until the account is closed under the terms. Usage counts follow the plan period. Server logs are kept only as long as we need them for debugging and security.
Billing, tip, and revenue-share records stay as accounting records after you delete the account. They are not published and are not used to rebuild your manuscript. The copy in your browser is on your device. Deleting the account does not erase it; clear the site data in your browser if you want it gone.
5. Cookies
We use the session cookies required to keep you signed in. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not set third-party advertising cookies.
6. Your choices
You can change your display name, make a work private again, or stop using the service. To delete the cloud account and its works, email support@cuttlebook.com. Within 30 days we delete the account, the sign-in id, and private works we still hold. Accounting records stay as described above.
If the law where you live gives you a right to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, use the same address. We may ask you to confirm it is you.
7. Security and location
Data is encrypted in transit. Cloud data is stored by Cloudflare in its regions, which may be outside your country. No transmission is perfectly secure. Do not put sensitive information into a manuscript or a chat if you do not want it to leave your device.
8. Changes and contact
We may update this policy and change the date at the top. We will point out a material change in the product or by email.
