Terms of Service · Cuttlebook

Effective date: October 23, 2026

These terms cover the Cuttlebook writing workspace, sync, community, and paid features on cuttlebook.com and its subdomains (the “service”). Using the service means you agree to these terms and the privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use it.

1. The service

Cuttlebook is a workspace for long-form fiction and scripts. You can write prose, keep outline and character material, use the AI assistant, and sync a project to your account. Sign-in is required for cloud features. Paid plans, tips, and publishing show their terms before you confirm.

2. Accounts

Cloud sync, AI quota, and payments need an account. Give us an email you can receive, and keep your sign-in to yourself. Activity under the account is treated as yours. Tell us promptly if you think the account is no longer safe.

You must be at least 18. The service is not for minors, and we do not knowingly keep an account for anyone under 18.

3. Your work

You keep your rights in the prose, outlines, characters, notes, and files you put into the service (“your content”). You give us a limited license to host, sync, display, and process that content so we can run the service, including showing a work to other readers when you publish it.

Text the AI writes from your content (“output”) can be wrong, repetitive, or similar to output given to someone else. You decide whether to use it. Where we have rights in that output, we assign them to you. That assignment does not cover the service, the models, the interface, or anyone else’s content.

You promise you have the rights to submit the content. Do not upload material that infringes someone else’s copyright, privacy, or other rights, and do not use the service for illegal content.

4. We do not train on your manuscript

We do not use your prose, outlines, notes, or AI conversations to train Cuttlebook’s own models, and we do not sell that content for someone else’s training. To produce a reply, we send the text needed for that request to a model provider. The provider processes it to return that reply, under its own terms.

5. Publishing, forks, and tips

You can switch a work between private and public. A public work can be read in the community. Making it private stops further public display.

If the product lets another person fork a public work, that fork follows the feature as it is offered. Unpublishing does not delete a fork that the other author already keeps.

A tip is a voluntary payment to the people credited on a work. It does not buy the copyright. We deduct the payment-network fee, then split the remainder using the shares shown at the time. Completed tips are not refunded except where the law requires it, the charge was duplicated, or we confirm a billing error. A refund goes back to the original payment method. Creator shares that were recorded but not yet paid out are reversed.

6. Subscriptions and refunds

Before you pay, checkout shows the amount, period, and currency. A subscription renews for the period you chose until you cancel. Cancel before the next charge. After you cancel, the paid period continues until it ends, and the account then returns to the free plan. Fees already paid for the current period are not refunded. A paid upgrade difference for the current period is not refunded either.

Airwallex processes the payment. We do not receive or store the full card number. Payment features are also covered by Airwallex’s terms.

If you are charged twice or for the wrong amount, contact us and we will correct it. Nothing here limits consumer rights that the law of your place does not allow to be waived.

7. Acceptable use

While you follow these terms, we give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the service. You may not:

break, reverse engineer, or bypass quotas; resell the service or share an account so someone else can write for profit; use the service or its output to train a competing model; scrape other people’s private content; interfere with the service or with anyone else’s use; submit malware; or use the service for anything illegal.

8. Our rights

The software, interface, brand, and documentation belong to us or our licensors. These terms do not sell you that. If you suggest a feature, we may use the suggestion to improve the service without paying you.

9. Changes, suspension, and loss of access

We may change features, plans, and prices. We will tell you about a price change in the product or by email before it applies. Continuing after that means you accept the new price.

You may stop at any time. We may suspend or close an account if you seriously break these terms, if a free account goes unused for a long time, or if we need to for security or legal reasons. If we discontinue a paid feature you have already paid for, we refund the unused portion of that period. If we close the account because you broke these terms, fees already paid are not refunded.

Content in the service can also become unavailable because of a failure or shutdown. Keep your own copies of manuscripts that matter.

10. Disclaimers and liability

The service and its output are provided as they are and as available. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that output is fit to publish or free of rights claims.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, lost profits, or loss of manuscript content. Our total liability to you for the service and these terms is the greater of the amount you paid us in the six months before the claim, or US$100. Liability that a law does not allow us to limit is unaffected.

11. Other terms

We may update these terms and change the date at the top. We will point out a material change in the product or by email. Continuing after the update means you accept the new terms.

These terms do not set aside mandatory rights in the place where you live. Otherwise, disputes about the service follow the law of the operator’s place of establishment. Write to us first. We will reply within a reasonable time.
